The historic, Tudor-style Bundanoon Hotel is a significant landmark of the Southern Highlands, just over 90 minutes on the freeway from either Sydney or Canberra. The old style rooms have been transformed; the fully modernised kitchen pays tribute to the original, 10 foot long Aga stove. Bundanoon Hotel has 50 large, comfortable guest rooms with a welcoming country atmosphere. There are 19 rooms with their own en suite bathrooms, four rooms have a shower with additional shared bathroom facilities and 27 rooms offer a hand basin with shared bathroom facilities. We went to the Bundanoon Hotel for a large family lunch. The place had a great atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon including a live cover singer in the beer garden. The old hotel has maintained its heritage and charm. I love the smell of an old hotel when you walk in. It was 39 degrees out and the club was adequately cooled enough for comfort. The service was really good at the bar although oddly the bar is situated at the opposite end from the dining area so carting drinks back for everyone was a bit of a mission. Not really a problem. The menu was extensive and what you'd expect and hope for when going to "the pub". I had the tomahawk cut steak which was huge and cooked perfectly. The table service by Carol was wonderful and catered for everyone's needs. Before we left she commented to me how lovely it was to see a big family get together and enjoy lunch. Will definitely be back again when visiting the oldies. Next time for a beer in the garden as well.
