Second time here and I really do love it. It's so unbelievably relaxing listening to the sea and looking at the palm trees from your balcony. We had a top floor beachfront room and from the sound of the other reviews we must have had a refurbed one as the bathroom was a big walk in shower. I thought all the food I had at the restaurant over the 3 days was really really nice - the barramundi was one of the best I've ever had. Wine is reasonably priced and there's a good happy (2) hour selection. The only let downs is the breakfast - from the amount we paid for B&B I would expect a little hot breakfast really. And the 15% surcharge all weekend- even Saturday!! Was a bit OTT I felt. The only other gripe is that we got the bus down and they didn't offer a free pick up - we saw plenty of other hotels and even hostels doing that. Pool could be a bit cleaner - i saw a guy pouring a litre of chlorine in each morning and that was it. Staff were really lovely though and helpful. And I will be back!! It really is the most relaxing and beautiful place!
Lovely place, good views, nice food - only downfall is there is an area of pool on the restaurant side of the pool fence that patrons are not allowed to swim in unless ordering food from a certain menu (even though our bill was quite high from what was ordered by us) - it is very difficult to explain to young kids (like ours) that they cannot sit in the water like the kids on the other side of the fence & we found our kids drawn to the water as it was right next to our table which made our entire experience unpleasant as we had to keep encouraging them away from the water instead of enjoying our time there. For this reason I would only consider going there without our kids. RATING: Purely on the restaurant, I would rate it 5 star without taking young kids and 1 to 2 with taking young kids. My husband has stayed there overnight for a few nights prior to this and would rate it 5 star (went without kids).
As a regular visitor, I nearly always enjoy my stay at Castaways. The new room service menu was fantastic & the staff are always pleasant. However something needs to be done about the old beach front rooms. They are seriously shabby & out of date! The older style shower over bath is a slip hazard & shower curtains in hotel rooms are just gross. Hopefully I'll get one of the refurbished rooms next time ????
Good enough three bedder (1 queen size, 2 single beds) . It was clean but the bathroom definitely needs updating and a sink in the kitchenette would've been nice as cleaning wine glasses in the bathroom sink does not appeal to me. The best part of snagging the bottom floor is having such easy access to the pool and beach. Sitting on the deck chairs just outside the room listening to the mini waterfall and watching over my two little ones, I felt myself relax and unwind. A sensation I haven't felt since my children endowed me with their presences over four years ago. The Drift Spa located just 25 metres from our room was a great bonus. The restaurant was full and I recommend to book if you want to have dinner. However, the seafood linguine was terrible (seafood was well overdone), chicken broccolini pasta was average and the rib eye fillet was ok. Verdict = average food, over-priced. Continental breakfast was included and offered a good selection of fresh fruit and pastries to die for. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would only return for the location of our room, breakfast and the view.
Castaways Resort and Spa, Mission Beach has some interesting information on why Australia is called the land down under?
Australia is known as 'the land Down Under' for its position in the southern hemisphere. The discovery of Australia began when European explorers searched for land under the continent of Asia. Before Australia was discovered, it was known as Terra Australis Incognita the unknown southern land.
