All staff was friendly, fun and easygoing, especially Stephen who provided great service and made our week long stay extremely enjoyable and fun. Phenomenal themes each night, especially the glow party on Thursday night and ladies night on Tuesday night. A chilled out and relaxed environment where it was easy to meet and interact with new people. Good location - close to the shops, the beach and Hastings street. Room was clean and spacious considering there were 10 females in the dorm.
Construction started at 5am outside the room I was staying in and didn't stop all morning. The a/c isn't turned on until 9pm and is then turned off early in the morning. They gave us free drink coupons which expired 30 minutes after they started. We were also forced to download and sign up for an app in order to check in despite this the lady on the counter couldn't understand English well enough so we had to type our own details into the computer for her. Also it was fairly expensive for a room with 8 beds.
Room is decent size but is not cleaned properly. Floor still covered in dirt. Bed sheet is crispy and the pillow is a foam block. Bathroom had a hole in the ceiling. The pool is a big bathtub. The big issue is that they offer “surfboard hire”. However they only have two surfboards which are always booked out in the early morning and gone for the whole day. It’s barely offering a good service if they only had 2. Therefore we lost the opportunity to surf as other rental shops were quite expensive in the area. The bar is alright if you want a night full of cheese and watered down drinks but a laugh if you go over to Peter pans and drink all their free goon before coming over so you are hanging. I wouldn’t stay here for long term but for 1-2 nights is the best amount. Kitchen was dirty and washers n dryers are more expensive here than what I’ve encountered anywhere else.
Poor!! Went with a group of friends to stay here and although we arrived 12 we weren't allowed to check in until 3.30pm. We were then told there's no alcohol or smoking allowed anywhere on the entire premises, not just in the room. The room was 42 degrees and stayed that way for 3 days because although there was an air conditioner, they only turn it on for 2 hours a day. So we were all sweltering in our room all night unable to sleep because of it. Staff kept going into our room while we were in there and also when we were out, without notice or our consent. We had to ask them to stop as we had personal and valuable belongings in there. Yes it is a backpackers but considering we were charged more than a grand for 3 nights for one room I think we should have been provided basic comfort and privacy. If we are being charged more than 5 star hotel price we should not have to go sleep in our car to escape the heat in the room. Only 2 hours of cooling in a 24hr period for $400 per night is unacceptable. We left a day early and definitely won't ever stay here again.
First of all, even before booking this is clearly listed as a backpackers hostel. A particular love/hate breed of accommodation. Anyone who didn't pick up on this seems to vent their distaste in the review section. I have stayed here multiple times in recent years, in a group and alone. It really is excellent. Even during the quiet spells it's well kept and has great features. If you arrive early and waiting to check in, management allow you to use the showers and kitchen. Small gestures like this can change my mood for the whole day. The staff are really chilled and most of them are also travellers. Cheap, clean, central.
Nomads Noosa has some interesting information on why Australia is called the land down under?
Australia is known as 'the land Down Under' for its position in the southern hemisphere. The discovery of Australia began when European explorers searched for land under the continent of Asia. Before Australia was discovered, it was known as Terra Australis Incognita the unknown southern land.
