Set in a tropical garden on the Darwin Harbour at Bullocky Point, is the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT). The MAGNT collections place the region's art, history and culture in an Australian and international context through research, interpretation and collection development. These collections encompass Aboriginal art and material culture, visual arts, craft, Southeast Asian and Oceanic art and maritime archaeology, Northern Territory history and natural sciences. The MAGNT complex consists of five major permanent galleries, a touring gallery, educational facilities for school groups, a theatre, the Museum Shop, and the Cornucopia Museum Cafe. A prominent event on the MAGNT exhibition program is the annual Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award. Established in 1984 by the MAGNT specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists, the award, sponsored by Telstra, attracts entries from the NT and interstate. The MAGNT also presents a yearly exhibition program. This comprehensive program is developed incorporating touring exhibitions from other museums and art galleries, as well as MAGNT initiated exhibitions which, from time to time, feature Territory artists. There is also a permanent gallery devoted to the tragic events of Cyclone Tracy, as well as numerous other displays....

A place to definitely visit while in Darwin. Admittance is free unless there is a visiting exhibition. They have good displays relating to the flora and fauna of the Territory as well as its social history and the early exploration from Indonesia. During school holidays at various times they have sessions for children on the museum and touch and feel. Mainly on a Sunday there are talks in the theatrette. Their restaurant has received favourable reviews.

This was a great insight into Darwin's history, specially cyclone Tracy. The Tracy exhibit is one of the best I've seen, audio, video and lots of historical artifacts. Big display of Sweetheart too, although I'm not sure if its the real croc but its still pretty cool. Lots of native art and a theater with interviews from community leaders. Food court is closed till Feb 2018. Entry is free There was a bloke making crepe outside

Excellent exhibition of Aboriginal art. Also, I enjoyed a lot the Tracy cyclone part. Very kind staff and interesting book shop.

Not bad for a small city. Cyclone Tracy and bombing of Darwin exhibitions were good. Free entry, well gold coin donation. No eating options when we were there, however, Darwin Ski club was a short walk.

Decent place, free entry was a plus. But maybe I read really quickly because I was through in 30-40 minutes. There also seemed to only be one art gallery open (on Indigenous Australian paintings which really started to blur together in their similarity). Finally they may have recently replaced the floor in the gallery because there was a really really strong plastic/rubber smell in that room
