About Josephine Falls, Wooroonooran National Park

Book Direct with the Owner at Josephine Falls, Wooroonooran National Park with QLD Tourism in Bartle Frere Click on the Email or Call Now button to get your special price.

Josephine Falls, a scenic section of Wooroonooran National Park, features a scenic waterfall fed by rains falling on Queensland's highest peak, Bartle Frere, which looms above this popular picnic area. Josephine Creek starts as a trickle high on the south-east side of the summit of Bartle Frere and ends as a substantial creek flowing into the Russell River. Approximately 7.5 kilometres from the summit of Bartle Frere, the waters of Josephine Creek tumble over granite boulders, forming the picturesque Josephine Falls. Wander along the walking track through lush tropical rainforest to viewing decks overlooking Josephine Creek and falls. From here, enjoy excellent views and opportunities for photography. Do not enter the restricted access area around the top of the falls. Serious injuries and deaths have occurred here. Penalties apply. Flash flooding (rapidly rising water) is common during wetter months. Rapid and unpredictable water level rises have isolated people on the far bank requiring their rescue. The rocks are also exceptionally slippery, the water cold and submerged objects may be in the creek. Never jump or dive into the water and take care around steep slopes and rock faces along the track and at the lookout....

Amazing place tucked away in the rain forest. A short drive from Cairns. Great way to spend a day outside of the city. The natural granite slides are the highlights of this place. Go when there has been a few days straight with no rain or else the current at the granite slides will be too fast to slide on. On a day where the water isn't going too fast, this place is safe enough for even older kids and young teenagers. The surrounding rain forest is beautiful and the drive to the falls is quite enjoyable with banana fields visible along the way. Highly recommended for anyone looking to cool off and enjoy a nature.

We came after heavy rain and the waterfall liked fantastic but wasn't good for swimming at the time. It's a nice short walk from the carpatk up to three different lookout platforms and great for getting pictures. The tour buses come through so it can be busy at times but if you wait it out you can get a nice quiet spot. There's lots of mosquitoes so it's good to wear bug repellent.

So refreshing! After a few meters walking through the rainforest along a nice path you reach the waterfalls where you can swim and have fun! You can relax on the rocks observing colourful butterflies. Shade on the falls, toilets on the big car park, easy to find, worth it!

Amazing place. Only short walk from the car park. You have to go for a swim if you visit, the water is so clear and refreshing.

This is an absolute must do. The water was fantastic and the little rock slide was a lot of fun. Swimmers that aren't very strong take caution but if you're not silly it is still very safe. The water is beautifully clear and fresh. A very tranquil experience
