About Hummock Lookout

Book Direct with the Owner at Hummock Lookout with QLD Tourism in Qunaba Click on the Email or Call Now button to get your special price.

Situated off the road to Bargara is the low-lying volcanic remnant known as "The Hummock" which, although only 96 metres above sea-level, offers visitors good views over the whole area. The ocean is visible to the east while, to the west, the sugar fields can be seen encircling the city with the smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill on the horizon. Watch the moon rise over the ocean as the sun sets over the land. The Hummock holds an important place in local indigenous history. The Taribelang Aboriginal people were the first humans to inhabit this area. Their 'burning mountain' is the 'Sloping Hummock" of today. There is a large Aboriginal art mural at the site which depicts the violent story of Paddys Island at the time of European settlement. Paddy's Island can still be seen from the Hummock lookout today....

Wow. Amazing views from up here despite not being very high in elevation. Was incredibly windy the first day I visited but was much nicer the second visit with more of a breeze. Love the colour of the soil in this region.

Visited on or around Australia Day 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was gorgeous day (my kind of weather - hot!) so the view was perfect. The Lookout has a couple of little shelters where one can just sit and take in the view but also has a display where if a button is pushed, provides commentary from a (former) sugar cane worker about his experience of the lifestyle. It is interesting just listening to how hard they had/have it. I had someone take me but don't know whether there is any public transport that takes one up there. If someone wanted to go there as part of a localised tour it would possibly be included. Sorry, don't remember whether there were toilets there.

Good to see sugarcane farms and landscapes from this lookout. Spent only few minutes as it was about to rain and had to go further. Attached photos with this review has few photos to know more about this place. A different perspective of farms from this place. Found farms of zaccuni and sweet potatoes as well. A nice, green and refreshing view.

Great views, interesting info about Burt Hinckler ( who? You better go find out more about one of Bundabergs beloved sons and a pioneer of Australian aviation). It's amazingly peaceful up there and has a brilliant talking display about the history of the area, not to mention of course volcanic rock. Even if only a rest point on your journey, worth the stop.

Now most of the trees have been removed it is now a great lookout again with 360 degree views of the whole Bundaberg district. Great place for a picnic with heaps of room for the kids to run around.
