Providing tourists with the opportunity to discover what institutional living was really like around the turn of this Century.
This is a truly 'fascinating journey' back through time. Walk through the hospital's admissions office, male hospital ward, male criminally insane ward, morgue and women's refractory prison compound. Explore various external buildings that include the industrial school hospital, boiler house, female workers block, staff mess rooms, nurses home, new hospital for the insane, kitchen, and ha ha walls, as well as the institutional grounds.
On display are copies of original photographs of patients who were incarcerated in this hospital 100 years ago, copies of original admission files, newspaper reports, relics that have been recovered from the hospital grounds, and various other displays.
Guides will discuss the roles staff had played during their employment here and processes that were associated with the admission of new patients, escapees, and deaths, and individual patient stories detailing reasons why these people were admitted.
Tour groups will learn about the various medical treatments that were administered during this time, seclusion cells, padded cells and various other forms of restraints used on patients, as well as the eventual decommissioning of these buildings.
Bookings are essential and tickets. Tours run for two hours on Saturday nights from 7pm till 9pm....
