The second phase of its advanced security checkpoint has now been officially completed for Denver International Airport (DEN), a major step in the airport on-going improvements through its Great Hall Program. A first of a kind announcement, heavily touted today by key leaders including US Representative Diana DeGette and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock represents a major step forward in passenger security and airport process improvement. The East Security Checkpoint on Level 6 will officially open for travelers on August 5 beginning at 3 a.m. for an enhanced airport experience.

Both the East and West Security Checkpoints are equipped with 17 screening lanes each, featuring the latest security technology to expedite the passenger screening process. These enhancements will facilitate a smoother, more efficient journey for passengers traveling through Denver International Airport.

The opening of the East Security Checkpoint marks the completion of the second phase of the Great Hall Program, which was completed five months ahead of schedule and $10 million under budget. The entire project is slated for completion by the close of 2027, with significant upgrades scheduled for phased openings throughout the duration.
The upcoming significant development is the launch of eight additional standard security lanes in late summer 2026, situated at the north end of Level 5. These new lanes will facilitate a smoother transition for international passengers, enabling quicker access to the concourses. Along with these lanes, new escalators and stairs will be introduced, enhancing access to baggage claim and ground transportation on Level 5.
