Family Car Rentals has an office on the Gold Coast, serving customers living in or visiting Australia’s holiday headquarters and we have another (smaller) operation in Sydney’s Northern Suburbs, serving the iconic beachside suburbs from Manly to Palm Beach.

We don't headline “we are the cheapest”, or we will match any other quote (or beat it by 5%). We have the Best Value Guarantee wherein we state that if you find a comparable deal that is cheaper than our quote, we will refund you double the difference, plus an additional $50.00. We have always set our operations apart from our competitors and we regularly check on them to ensure that we stay in front, in both service standards and value for money.

Including us, there are 49 car rental companies on the Gold Coast and we maintain a constant vigil of what is going on in our market place. We strive to provide the best possible service levels and the best value rental deals.

We never charge for child safety seats, we have found only two other companies that also supply these items without charge.

We provide a wide range of “holiday accessories” at concessional rental prices, including strollers; prams; portable cots; high chairs; picnic sets; beach umbrellas; beach chairs; golf clubs, wheelchairs and mobility walkers. There are three other companies that offer some of these items, but no other company has such a range.

We provide portable GPS units at the rate of $15 for the first week, and $1 per day thereafter. We have identified 10 other companies that do not offer such an accessory and 34 companies that charge between $25.00 and $146.30 for a week’s GPS rental (prices obtained beginning of April 2018).

We are one of the 26 companies that do not charge for additional drivers, those that do charge for extra drivers had 7 day prices from $10 to $56.21 for this facility when we checked in early April 2018.

The biggest price variance in car rental packages is with insurance excess reduction and it is also by far the most misleading of all of the components of a rental package. We provide a Zero excess option and we also have a 90% reduction option. Full full 7-day coverage cost is $67.00 for the ZERO excess package and $49.50 for the intermediate reduction. Prices that we found in early April 2018 from other rental companies ranged from $63.00 to $233.11 for the intermediate cover and Zero Excess covers start at $126.00, ranging up to $383.58.

Of course, value is much more than mere price – we are not one of those companies that tell you that your excess is reduced to a low figure (sometimes NIL), but fail to make it clear that they are offering you a package that contains very serious flaws in coverage compared to normal insurance expectations which could leave you exposed for tens of thousands of dollars.

We subscribe to a private monitoring service covering more than 120 rental companies and well over 1,000 branches. This service has created 27 different standards of Consumer Fairness in respect of rental terms and conditions, insurance coverage, disclosure, clarity and transparency of information and service charges, privacy policy matters and service levels. They do not make any judgement on pricing.

There are only three rental branches in all of Australia which has been awarded “Gold Medal” status by complying with all of their 27 Standards of Consumer Fairness. Our Gold Coast office, our Sydney Northern Beaches office and an unrelated rental company based on the Sunshine Coast are the ones with the fairest terms and conditions.

Every other rental company has some form of shortcoming according to the monitoring service, it’s knowing the degree and nature of those shortcomings that can save you from serious financial harm.
