Be at the Australian War Memorial for this important day of remembrance. At 11.00 am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. This year marks the 97th anniversary of the armistice on 11 November. Australians pause to remember those who fought and died for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. Members of the public are encouraged to attend this important ceremony. Please note that the Memorial will be closed during the ceremony and will re-open after the ceremony's conclusion....5.0 based on 1 reviews
Set on sprawling lawns at the base of Mount Ainslie, directly north of Canberra's Old and New Parliament Houses, the Australian War Memorial is a peaceful and picturesque site. There are bronze plaques lining walking paths, sculptures in the garden (including of WWI hero, Simpson and his donkey), a shrine and museum and cafe among other things to explore. Give yourself a few hours to wander through, read moving and fascinating war stories, learn about battles and machinery and just take it all in. Absolutely worth seeing for anyone interested in Australia's military involvement over time.
